Karatedo Society

The Karatedo Society was established with the aim of cultivating students’ interest in Karatedo.Karatedo is a form of self-defense martial art that does not rely on weapons, involving unarmed combat using only the hands and feet. Originally known as Tōde (唐手), it was introduced to the Ryukyu Islands—now Okinawa Prefecture, Japan—from China. Today, Karatedo is considered one of Japan’s national martial arts. Karatedo emphasizes practical combat, with coordinated use of both hands and feet, and values the qualities of speed, power, and precision. In competitions, it is divided into Kumite (sparring) and Kata (form practice).

Anyone can participate in Karatedo training, beginning with basic techniques. At the initial stage, the intensity of training can be adjusted according to the practitioner’s physical condition. As long as the training is conducted properly and practiced consistently, positive results will follow. Karatedo training is very safe when students follow the instructions of their instructors. Women are also welcome to take part in Karatedo; in fact, there are dedicated women’s divisions in Karatedo competitions.Through Karatedo training, one can not only strengthen both body and mind, but also acquire effective self-defense skills.
